Partial foreign-body obstruction

A standing adult who is choking but still moving air with stridor has a partial obstruction. Forceful interventions can convert that into a complete block.

Encourage the patient to cough and monitor closely. Abdominal thrusts are for complete obstruction in adults; back blows are an infant technique; never perform a blind finger sweep.
