CPAP for cardiogenic pulmonary edema

In an alert patient with crackles from left-sided heart failure, CPAP reduces work of breathing and drives alveolar edema back into the capillaries. NRB or MDI alone does not correct hydrostatic edema; BVM if the patient can no longer ventilate adequately.
